RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) is the most comprehensive bibliographical reference work in music. Publication was started in 1952 and is still being continued. Aim is the worldwide documentation of written musical sources from the earliest times, including scores in manuscript and print, libretti and theoretical works. For historical research as well as historical music practice RISM is an indipensible resource.

RISM Series A provides references to manuscript and printed sources which contain works by a single composer. The manuscripts (Series AII) have recently been made freely available online, numbering in total 700.000 titles and the majority originated before 1800. This publication is the result of a cooperation between RISM, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich and the Staatsbibliothek/Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin.

Entries in RISM contain data such as title, instrumentation, materials, incipits, and the libraries and collections in which the work may be found. The NMI is present with 329 titles (carrying the old signature NL-DHgm).
