Study Room and Reading Room

The NMI has no reading room of itself, all materials are kept in the depot and have to be requested. The NMI is part of the City Archive and the library desk is located in the reading room of the City Archive (HGA). Opening hours of the NMI library desk are: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon between 13.00 and 17.00.

Archive material can also be consulted in the reading room of the City Archive, but Ccnsultation is possible by appointment only. Opening hours: Tuesday till Friday between 9.00 and 17.00 (Spui 70, The Hague). Please contact us at nederlandsmuziekinstituut@denhaag.nl.

There is no possibility to make photocopies yourself. Photocopies can be made by the librarian and cost € 0,30 per page. Small amounts can be made immediately, larger amounts can be picked up later. Another possibilty is to make photographs (without) flash, or scans with a smartphone or iPad. You can make them yourself without charge.

The microfiches are freely available in the readingroom of the City Archive (Spui 70, ground floor). Opening hours are Tuesday till Friday between 9.00 and 17.00. See also: www.gemeentearchief.denhaag.nl

Borrow and renew

The normal loan period is four weeks. Books which are not lendable are kept for one week in the reading room. The maximum number of publications which can be borrowed at one time is fifteen. It is not permitted to pass on borrowed materials to any other person.

Collecting
You may collect requested publications during the opening hours of the NMI. Requested materials will be set aside during one week.

Renewal, prolongation
You may renew the loan period of borrowed publications through the library catalogue. A loan period may be extended, unless the publication is under reservation. Books on loan may be reserved. You will be notified when the book is available.

Return
Publications on loan should be returned on the due date at the latest. If returned by mail, materials should be carefully wrapped. Any risk of damage or loss during delivery is the borrower's responsibility. On request, we will provide you with a delivery receipt.


Fines & damages
In case the loan period is exceeded, the borrower will be sent a (first) reminder by email. If there is no reaction to this reminder, a second reminder will be sent out after one week. If there is no response to this, the borrowing rights will be blocked and a fine will be imposed of € 4,50 per publication. You will be notified of this through a third reminder. The borrower's rights will only be reinstated after delivery of the publication(s) and payment of the fine(s). If the NMI has to replace a book not returned, the borrower will be held liable for all costs involved. The costsill be at least € 49,50 per publication.
