J'accepte sa proposition comme un bienfait, en espérant que vous me pardonnerez généreusement le déplorable manque d'expansibilité de mes sentimens. Personne n'en souffre autant que moi, croyez le bien; mais comment y remédier? De Paris il m'était impossible d'écrire. Je rapporte par douzaines des lettres auxquelles il faut nécessairement que je réponde. Ce sera ma première occupa- tion au Monte Mario où je retournerai dans trois ou quatre jours. Monseigneur de Hohenlohe est nommé Cardinal, et par conséquent délogera du Vatican de suite après le Consistoire du 22 de ce mois. Les autres nouveaux Cardinaux créés sont: |

Le ricevimento de Mgr Hohenlohe et de Bilio aura lieu au Quirinal - On dit que Lucien Bonaparte que j'ai revu plusieurs fois à Paris, sera pourpré aussi à ce consistoire - et que Mgr de Mérode remplacera Hohenlohe comme Grand Aumônier de Sa Sainteté. J'ai été heureux de retrouver Cosima et Hans à Amsterdam où nous avons passé une semaine de pleine intimité ensemble. La position de Hans à Munich se consolide. Le roi l'a chargé de la direction de plusieurs Concerts cet hiver. L'Élisabeth a été donné trois fois, et on remonte à neuf le Tannhäuser et Lohengrin que Hans dirigera également. Après ces représentations Cosima s'établira avec son mari et ses trois enfans pour le reste de l'été à la campagne Triebschen près de Lucerne que Wagner habite depuis six semaines et qu'il a loué pour un an. [p. 3] the excellent Solfanelli, whose merits and devoted affection toward me I could not sufficiently praise. I've been happy to see Cosima and Hans again at Amsterdam, where we've spent a week in close intimacy together. Hans' position in Munich is becoming more stable. The King has charged him with the direction of several concerts this winter. Elisabeth has been given three times, and there will be new stagings of Tannhäuser and Lohengrin which Hans will also conduct. After these performances Cosima will establish herself with her husband and her three children for the rest of the year at the Triebschen estate near Lucerne, which is Wagner's home since six weeks and which he has rented for a year. As you know, Sgambati has conducted the Dante Symphony admirably during the inauguration night of the Galeria Dante |
