Ma petite personne et la Messe du couronnement ont rencontré le meilleur accueil possible; mais ce détail ne vaut guère la peine de s'y arrêter en vue des grandes choses qui se sont accomplies en Hongrie. Les journaux vous ont appris le rétablissement de l'ordre légal, l'amnistie générale (sans exclusion ni difficulté quelconque) la restitution des biens confisqués pour cause de délit politique, et enfin le don de 100000 ducats affecté par le Roi aux veuves et orphelins des Honveds, et aux Honveds invalides eux mêmes. My humble person and the Coronation Mass have met with the most favourable reception possible; but that detail hardly merits attention in view of the great things which have been accomplished in Hungary. The newspapers have informed you of the reestablishment of legal order, general amnesty (without any exception or complication), restitution of goods confiscated for reason of political offence, and finally the donation of 100.000 ducats made by the King to the widows and orphans of the Honvéds, and the casualties among the Honvéds themselves. These are good measures of reconciliation and reparation; Hungary applauds them and honest people in all countries will be glad. For my |

Its execution has been the exclusive responsibility of the Vienna Court Chapel; consequently I have been deprived of the collaboration of Reményi upon which I had particularly counted, because it was for him that I had intended the violin solo in the Benedictus. Our Magyar Paganini will be able to let you hear it in the month of August in Thuringia, when he will come to the Wartburgfest which has been definitely scheduled for August 28. I will probably leave Rome near the end of July; and if you will let me know where to address the invitation to you as highly illustrious member of the Tonkünstlerverein, it will arrive in time. On the way to Pest and on the way back I've passed one day in Florence with Mme Laussot, who told me you were well. She will settle for a few weeks in Mannheim and assures me that she will not fail to attend the Wartburgfest. May the works of charity which you are accomplishing with such Christian constancy help you to endure the sorrows of this life, and may the roses of St. Elisabeth flower in your soul!
